I was approached by the design build contractor to find a cost saving solution to bring this multistory, mixed-use residential building closer to their planned budget.
The original design called for post tensioned concrete slabs at every floor. I found that by redesigning every other floor to be a light gauge cold form steel structure, close to $1.5M in construction and material cost was saved, at zero cost to structural integrity.

TGM Northshore is a nine story, 250,000 square foot apartment complex in the northern Chicago suburbs. I was the Engineer of Record for the superstructure.
The structure was designed utilizing light gauge steel load bearing walls and light gauge steel joist systems. I was able to partially utilize light gauge steel shear systems as well, bring down overall project costs by an estimated XX%
